Both of these formulas give the same answer, the constant e. which is a number like pi that goes on forever and  google say it is 2.71828183. The number e was in My Opinion first discovered by Lennard Euler who was born in 1707 and died in 1783. According to Liesbeth De Cock, Ilse de Saegher, Nele Roelens , Natalie Van Eynde, and Liesbeth Van Raemdonck , Euler very amazingly also produce almost one half of his works while blind, in the later years of his life! Euler also held many prestigious posts throughout his life at various centers of learning in Europe.
here is the irrational transcendental number e.

e = 2.71828183
